Risa Gettler

Risa taught the 2-Day Workshop Visigothic Versals and Mini Class Painting Knotty Letters  at Legacies III.

I was at an outdoor beach café in the summer of 2003 when I was captured by Spain. This was no summer romance. My love and desire to truly know, learn, and understand these letterforms lead me to Spain, Morocco, Princeton University’s Medieval Spanish Department and the Morgan Library. Nothing compared to countless hours in solitary manuscript study. I have been mining 7th – 11thcentury Spanish manuscripts for 18 years. I am throughly versed in Visigothic Versals and experienced in carefully leading seasoned calligraphers from the Exemplar to break through boundaries and visual fun for both writer and reader. Abandon yourself to color and then top your work with an outrageous Zoomorphic or stunning capital.
