Eleanor Winters has been an active participant in the international calligraphy movement for 40 years. A commercial as well as fine-art calligrapher, she is the author of six calligraphy books, including Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy (Dover Publications, 1989) and Calligraphy for Kids (Sterling Publishing, 2004). Her books have been translated into several languages. She served as Director of the Calligraphy Workshop in New York City for 25 years, taught as a Professor of Art at Long Island University from 1990 – 2005, and has been teaching for the New York Society of Scribes for several decades. She teaches workshops in the US and Europe, and has visited Asia as a calligraphy instructor numerous times, including workshops in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Thailand. She has been teaching online classes to students around the world since mid-2020. As a fine-art calligrapher, Eleanor has exhibited her work in museums and galleries in the US and Europe. Exhibitions of calligraphic paintings from her Holocaust memorial project (A la Mémoire des Enfants Déportés) were hosted by the Anne Frank Center in NYC in 2014, the Holocaust Memorial Center in Michigan in 2016, and in Paris in 2019. Future exhibitions are in the planning stages.
